NBA Betting Types
NBA events are bigger than big in the world of sports betting. Various betting types have been developed to be tailor-made for NBA events.
Moneyline bets are simple bets. Bettors will simply select their favourite – the favourite most likely to win the game. Moneyline bets primarily pay off in the event of the underdog securing a victory. This results in Moneyline bets not being a very popular type of bet – however a select few swears by this type of bet. The success of a Moneyline bet essentially rests with predicting an upset.
Point Spread Bets
Point Spread bets are also focused on the underdogs. An advantage is awarded to the underdogs in a points value. Advantage points awarded before commencement of the match can vary between three and ten points.
For those placing a bet on the team expected to win the match – this team will have to win the match by 3 points or more in order for bettors to secure a win. The underdogs, on the other hand, will have to either win the game, or lose by less than three points, in order for bettors to see any returns.
With Totals betting, the bookmaker will select a totals number based on the likely outcome of the particular match. In order for a bettor to win with Totals betting, the bettor must correctly predict whether the total number of combined points scored during the match, will be over or under the totals value pre-determined by the bookmaker.
Props betting will appeal to the more creative bettor. Props betting can include wagers on aspects such as a specific player’s number of points scored, a team’s total number of rebounds, the difference between the teams’ eventual scores, etc.
A Parlay bet is a more risky form of bet. The bettor must select a minimum of two totals, moneyline or point spread bets, and combine them into a single bet. All selections must win in order for a payout to be added to the bettor’s kitty. Payouts associated with Parlay bets are generally higher due to the higher value of uncertainty.
Live Betting is about as exciting and real-time as sports betting gets. Bettors are able to place bets from their mobile devices as the game progresses and unfolds. Live Betting is relatively new in NBA betting, but is growing in popularity as bettors become more comfortable with this type of bet.
